Using The Weather Channel’s SurgeFX simulation technology, this project demonstrates the potential impact of storm surges from hurricanes like Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene. SurgeFX creates a vivid simulation of how storm surges might appear and the catastrophic effects they can have on specific areas. This immersive tool educates users on storm surge science, highlights the risks, and underscores the importance of preparedness in an engaging and impactful way.

OBJECTIVE

This project revitalized The Weather Channel’s SurgeFX simulation technology by crafting new environments, overhauling the water system, and integrating dynamic, triggerable visual effects. The upgraded SurgeFX now delivers even more vivid and impactful simulations, showcasing the devastating power of storm surges from hurricanes. This cutting-edge update transforms how storm surge science is visualized, immersing users in the risks and catastrophic effects while equipping communities with essential knowledge and tools for preparedness.

CREATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

-Design an environment inspired by the US Carolinian Coastal Suburbs for the Surge FX southern region explainers. ( Encompasses Modeling, Texturing, Lighting, and Set Dressing)

-Triggerable VFX such as Roof Shingle Fly-Away Animations, Electric Transformer Explosions, Power Outage, and Floatable Debris and Vehicles. 

- Storm Environmental effects such as swinging powerlines, flying leaves, rain mist and fog, tree wind animations, and swinging poles and signs.
